Finding the right company for flooring in Hornsby isn’t just about choosing the right colour. Sometimes, the biggest challenge is what’s underneath the floor.
Recently, a homeowner from Wahroonga visited our Thornleigh showroom after reading our Google Reviews. Being located just minutes from Hornsby, our showroom was an easy stop for them to discuss their renovation plans and explore different flooring options in person.
After comparing several products, they selected Aspire Hybrid Flooring from Preference Floors in the beautiful Pebble Beach colour. The soft natural oak tone perfectly suited their newly renovated home and offered the durability they were looking for.
The Challenge: Multiple Subfloors, Multiple Heights
Although the flooring selection was straightforward, the installation was anything but.
The newly extended home consisted of several different subfloors throughout the property. Some rooms had ceramic tiles, others had existing timber flooring, while the extension was finished with a concrete slab. To make things even more complicated, every surface sat at a different height.
This creates a significant challenge when installing hybrid flooring.
Unlike many people realise, hybrid flooring requires a very flat and consistent subfloor. Even relatively small height differences or uneven surfaces can lead to movement, hollow spots or locking system failure over time.
Rather than trying to work around the existing surfaces, we recommended rebuilding the entire base using structural plywood.
Our Solution: Creating One Continuous Foundation
Our installation team carefully installed plywood across the different floor surfaces, bringing every section of the home to one consistent level.
Once completed, what had previously been a patchwork of tiles, timber and concrete became one solid, flat platform ready for installation.
This preparation work is often the difference between an average flooring installation and one that performs well for many years.
With the new subfloor complete, we installed the client’s chosen Aspire Hybrid Flooring by Preference Floors in Pebble Beach, achieving a seamless flow throughout the home.
Finally, new skirting boards were installed to complete the project and provide a clean, modern finish.
Why Preparation Matters
Many flooring projects focus only on the product itself, but successful installations begin long before the first plank is laid.
By investing time in proper subfloor preparation, we were able to eliminate height differences, improve the overall stability of the floor, and create a result that both looked and felt like one continuous living space.
For homeowners looking for flooring in Hornsby or the surrounding Upper North Shore, every home presents its own challenges. Our role is to find the right technical solution—not simply install new flooring.
The homeowners were delighted with the final result, and their new floor now provides the appearance, comfort and durability they had envisioned from the beginning.
